So it was my 29th birthday yesterday, and I can hardly believe it… Time really does fly by… In fact, a good example of that is the exact thing I am going to talk about in this post; the Resident Evil series started 20 years ago! Yes, I could count Sweet Home as well, but I’m starting that count from the original Resident Evil on the PlayStation.

Anyway, I’ve been a fan of the Survival Horror genre since I first played Resident Evil and Silent Hill… And now, for my 29th I bought Resident Evil 7: Biohazard…

It’s probably worth stating that I wasn’t impressed with the fifth game in the series, and really did not like the sixth. So when a seventh game was announced, I had my reservations. But the demo and the trailers changed that, and so I got the game with some gift cards I received from my colleagues at work.

Now, my biggest complaint with the Resident Evil series is the same that many long time fans had; the horror was lost and it became your typical blockbuster action game. For example, in a series predominantly about zombies, why would you need to have a scene where you are running down a street filled with cars as everything explodes around you.

So, with that, I was losing faith in the series that had introduced me to horror games. It simply wasn’t horror anymore!

Well, that changed, didn’t it? Along comes Resident Evil 7 which its first person camera and lack of soldier characters (at least as far as I have gotten). On top of that, the return to the claustrophic atmosphere is more than welcome!

In fact, I only managed to play about 2 hours of it before getting scared enough to think “I’ll play more tomorrow”. As Kotaku said, RE7 is definitely a return to form for the series! I would highly recommend you go out and get this game! Especially if you are interested in horror games! Or even if you just need a little scared!

Only time will tell if there is actually the case throughout. But for now, I’m very happy with that game, because most don’t scare me. This one did, and that’s why I can’t help but recommend getting the game!

I’m only a few hours in so far, so expect a full review later, but so far so good! The atmosphere is intense! The lack of any real way to defend yourself (so far) is great for the horror side of things, and the first person camera really adds to it! Not being able to see behind you actually gave my a shiver down my spine a few times!

So if you’re looking for some actual horror, I would definitely say you should it a try! And again, there’s a full review to come soon! So make sure you follow me on Bloglovin or subscribe so you don’t miss it!
