For those of you who have been reading this blog for a while now, you’ll no doubt know that I have been vaping for over 3 years now. What you might not know is that I used to smoke at least a pack of 20 cigarettes each day. Looking back at it, I was pretty damn stupid, really…

I had tried going cold turkey a few times, but I just never had the will power. The longest I managed without a smoke was 11 months, but then I had one whilst partying with friends and I was hooked again.

That’s when I knew I wouldn’t be able to quit like that. So I tried the gum. I gave the patches a go. I tried everything I could get my hands on, and none of it worked. That is, until I switched to vaping. But what made me make that switch?

Why I Switched

As someone who had been smoking for the better part of 16 years by that point, I was of the mindset that “the damage had already been done”. I didn’t think there was any real point in quitting anymore… Plus, I knew how badly I was addicted to the nicotine.

Then, my father-in-law’s friend came to visit with his newfangled e-cigarette. He told me that he still got enough nicotine from it, and that it didn’t release any actual smoke!

That was the biggest thing for me; giving off second hand smoke. You see, I’ve always been of the mindset that smoking was my mistake, and others shouldn’t suffer because of it. Second hand smoke was such a big issue for me. So, the idea of having something that gives me enough nicotine without forcing smoke onto others was perfect!

As soon as I could, I picked up a starter kit to try out.

Not Plain Sailing

However, that first starter kit did nothing for me. Even with the highest strength of liquid, it just didn’t give me enough. I was really disappointed and ended up smoking again. Then, about a year later, after changing to a job in Lincolnshire and making friends with a die-hard vaper, I gave it another go. This time, however, my new friend advised me on what to get.

With his help, I picked up a better kit (not a starter kit) and some high quality liquid. From that day forward, I didn’t have another cigarette! And I still haven’t… Not one. The switch to vaping was instant, as soon as I found the right kit.

That’s really what makes or breaks vaping for most people. You see, there is a huge difference in the amount of nicotine you get from a liquid, depending on the tank and battery you have. Starter kits that you can buy in the petrol station probably won’t cut it, and it is important to know that. Otherwise, you’ll just end up giving up on the idea.

Instead, look around (and maybe ask other people) to find the right one for you. You may need to spend a bit more, but it is definitely worth it!

Why You Should Make The Switch

Okay, so we’ve covered my reason for moving to vaping, but what about you? Why should you give up the cigarettes and starting to vape?

Well, it all depends on what is important to you. So, here are the benefits in a nutshell:

  • Smoke Free – As mentioned earlier, vaping doesn’t give off any smoke. The clouds that you see are actually just water vapour (thus the term vaping).
  • No Tar – The nicotine in cigarettes doesn’t actually cause any damage to you, other than being addictive. The tar is the problem. Vaping, however, doesn’t give you any tar whatsoever!
  • Healthier – Whilst you’ll hear a lot of people saying that vaping is just as bad as smoking, that just isn’t true. The chemicals that go into the liquid or cartridges (PG and VG) are the same ones that are in asthma inhalers!
  • Cheaper In The Long Run – Cigarettes are so expensive these days! If you are like me, and you smoke a pack each day, that’s a lot of money! You can get three bottles of liquid for the same price (if not cheaper), and three bottles lasts me a week!

As you can see, there are some real benefits to making the move from smoking to vaping. And honestly, if you are smoking, I cannot recommend it enough! Especially if you have or are expecting children. The fact that there is no cigarette smell is a huge bonus too! Oh, and it also doesn’t make your hands, teeth and the walls yellow either.

So take a look around, and find the right e-cigarette for you! You could go for the refillable tank style, or start with cigarette style e-cigarettes to vape with. Whatever your reason, and whichever ends up right for you, vaping is definitely a great choice!
