So this is sort of a response post, I guess? I was reading the latest post over on DadBlogUk, and it really struck a cord with me. You see, technology has been a huge part of my life since I was about 5 and got my first Sega MegaDrive. Since then, I’ve had computers, laptops and more. In fact, I was lucky enough to be the first person in my school year to get a mobile phone. Why? Becuase I loved technology…

Yet, reading that post, I realised that even someone like me can see the issue with how much technology has become part of our communication.

Too Many Options

One of the biggest things I can see is that there’s now just too many ways in which we can communicate with each other. I mean, I get messages on my phone, through Facebook or Twitter, on Skype, Discord and (of course) email. Yet I still manage to miss messages and information being shared with me.

Similar to John Adam in his post, I’ve been told by people that they have sent me messages in WhatsApp, or SnapChat, or a myriad of other apps… All of which I don’t actually have.

And so, all of these messages went unanswered, because I never saw them…

That’s probably one of the biggest problems, really… There are just far too many ways to get in contact with each other that it’s nearly impossible to actually keep up with it all. No matter what you do, you’re going to miss something.

Then, when people get annoyed because they think you’re being rude, or you missed a get together, you have to explain yourself…

Technology Fueled Guilt

The next part of this whole situation is the guilt. You see, when you end up missing an important event, like a surprise party, you may end up feeling guilty. But the fact of the matter is, you just didn’t get the message because it was sent on the latest obscure messaging app, rather than a standard text.

It’s an irrational guilt, but it can happen. I know… It’s happened to me.

But it’s just too hard to make sure you have every single possible way that someone will contact you these day. Gone are the days of relying on a phone call, text message or email. Everything is instant now, through one of a thousand different apps. I just can’t keep track of it all… And I love technology, as we have already established.

How Do You Keep Up With Everything?

This is one question I still haven’t found the answer to… Other than keeping a ear close to the ground for the latest communication trend (something I don’t have the time or will to do). So if you wonderful readers have any advice on how to not miss anything, I’d love to hear it.

At the moment, I’m basically trying to get everyone to either text me or email me, and keep it to that. But then, I end up missing out on group discussions and plans anyway. It’s really hard to work out what to do.

Do you guys find it all confusing and far too complicated as well? Or is it just me? Let me know in the comments below!
